Hi there!
I am Sridevi. I live in a suburban town near Toronto and enjoy gardening, reading, painting, long walks in the evening and of course, cooking. I am from Kerala, but grew in Tamil Nadu, both South Indian states in India. As coconut controls my kitchen and is an integral part of my cooking, it is no wonder I surrender to its spell.
My horizon expanded when I lived in East Africa for 12 years, 2 in Dar es saalam, Tanzania and 10 years in 2 cities of Kenya. I ate fresh food, explored the wilderness and enjoyed all the splendors that Africa offers. It gave me a wide spectrum of experiences that really made me! My kids grew up there and can relate to it as their homeland. I was exposed to the simplicity of ethnic cuisine and learned to appreciate a relaxed life style as the saying goes ‘There is no hurry in Africa’!
Cooking, for me is very rewarding with fun and discovery at every stage. Success or failure, the end result gives a rare kind of pleasure. I am addicted to that joy!
Being a mother, I started cooking out of necessity but eventually, without realizing, I have fallen for it. When the tasters admire the food or show a gesture of appreciation, I secretly gloat in glory.
I love everything about food…its color, texture, variety, shapes and the excellent aroma that fills the kitchen.
Living in Canada, I am exposed to the best of both worlds. I watch different cooking shows, try new techniques and buy a wide array of food coming in from every part of the world.
This is my cook book…as memory keeps messing up with the measurements and ingredients of some recipes I need to look back. You are welcome to peep in too!

What is your favorite dish with coconut? From childhood I like coconut chutni and curd. But now avoiding curd, because of throat problem.

Ah, I like many of the dishes including avial, olan, erissery, varathuaracha curries and chammandhi. Cooking would be dull without the use of coconut! Thank you for the nice words!
